History of the Center

    July 17, 1964
    President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Water Resources Research Act of 1964 into law, authorizing the appropriation of funds to assist each state in establishing a water resources research institute.


    September 1, 1964
    A Water Resources Research Institute was established at Oklahoma State University of Agriculture and Applied Science.


    September 10, 1964
    Oklahoma Governor Henry Bellmon designated Oklahoma State University of Agriculture and Applied Science as the organization to establish the Institute and to receive federal funds.


    July 1, 1965
    The Oklahoma Water Resources Research Institute (OWRRI) was established.


    2011
    The OWRRI's name changed to the Oklahoma Water Resources Center
