The Oklahoma Water Resources Center is responsible for developing and coordinating water research funding to address the needs of Oklahoma.

In 2006, a group of state regulators were called together to assist in selecting projects to receive funding. This board, known as the Water Research Advisory Board (WRAB), is comprised of policymakers and other water resource professionals.

WRAB members meet at least twice each year: summer and winter.

  1. Summer: The summer meeting is held to hear the technical reports from the projects funded during the previous year and to select pre-proposals to continue to the final proposal stage. On August 11, 2017 the Board will meet to hear findings from 2016 funded projects and consider pre-proposals for 2018 funding.
  2. Winter: The focus of the winter meeting is to determine which research projects the Water Center will fund during the upcoming project year and to set the funding priorities for the following project year. During the winter meeting on December 19, 2016 the Board heard proposals from 4 faculty and 5 student projects, and selected 1 faculty and 3 student projects to fund; these include:
  3. Faculty project:

    1. Ronald Bonett, Alexander Hess "Utilizing native isopods to assess the connectivity and quality of Oklahoma groundwater"

    Student projects:

    1. Briana M. Wyatt (Tyson E. Ochsner, Chris B. Zou) "Modeling soil moisture under various land cover types: using long-term grassland monitoring data to estimate soil moisture in Oklahoma forests"
    2. Kul Bikram Khand (Saleh Taghvaeian) "The Impact of Drought on Vegetation Water Use in Different Climatic Divisions across Oklahoma"
    3. Karthik Ramaswamy (Art Stoecker) "Economics of Groundwater Interaction and Competing Crops"

The meetings are open to the public. If you would like to attend, please e-mail water@okstate.edu.
