2016-2018 Berry Fellows

The Thomas E. Berry Faculty Fellows Program in Integrated Water Research and Management recognizes Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (DASNR) faculty, Extension educators, and district specialists who are making outstanding contributions in research, Extension, and/or education.

2016-2018 Program

  • Selection Criteria:
    • Applicant’s past performance related to water research, Extension, and/or teaching programs. Evidence of a successful early career through publications in leading journals, Extension fact sheets, other scholarly works, citation analysis, awards, and/or external funding.
    • Quality and applicability of proposed two-year research, Extension, and/or education program in water.
    • Commitment to contribute to the mission of the Water Center and participate in Water Center activities.
  • Faculty Fellow Terms:
    • Two fellows will be awarded for a period of two years up to $10,000 per year, depending on availability of funds.
    • Proposals were due July 29, 2016.
    • Candidates will be evaluated by a committee consisting of the Director of the Water Center and two Endowed Chairs/Professors in DASNR. The VP, Dean, and Director of DASNR will approve selected fellows.
    • Funds can be used to support any aspect of research, Extension, and/or teaching (research assistantships, supplies, equipment, travel, undergraduate research) but not for food or salary support. Equipment should be for multiple investigator use.
    • Fellows will provide research, Extension, and/or teaching program and product information to be included on the Water Center website, present a seminar during OSU Water Week, and help promote the Water Center across campus and to external groups.
  • Eligibility:
    • Preference may be given to full-time Assistant or Associate Professors, Extension educators, and district specialists who have been at OSU for no more than 10 years (as of May 31).
    • Administrators are not eligible.
    • Individuals are not eligible to be named a Berry Faculty Fellow in consecutive two-year terms.
  • Fellow Applications:
    • A letter of nomination from the Department Head/Chair of the faculty member.
    • Narrative (1-page max) documenting past contributions in water research, Extension, and/or teaching.
    • Proposal (1-page max) documenting the proposed program and/or contribution in research, Extension, and/or teaching.
    • Current CV (5-page max).
    • Applications were to be submitted electronically to the Water Center by July 29th, 2016 @ 5:00 PM. Fellows will be named by September 1st.
