Our Research

Management of transboundary water is a major challenge. Each country has their own set of rules to manage waters in the same basin. The AccelNet PEER2PEER Project is exploring solutions to this problem by bringing networks together to advance improvements in transboundary water diplomacy and minimize the likelihood of conflict between countries. The goal is to synergize research initiatives, share data and tools, and foster collaboration in transboundary water security scholarship and capacity building.

The project is funded by the National Science Foundation and led by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM). Oklahoma State University and the University of California Irvine are providing technical support to the project. Researchers, postdocs, and graduate students can communicate through a collaboration hub where they can from groups by subject matter.

Some of the transboundary topics that the project is addressing include water stress, climate change, advancements in technology, and data scarcity. The international convergence network currently has partners in the United States, the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. The project is looking to expand in Africa and are currently working to bring in network members from West Africa.
